I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of Sammy hacking up something. In all of his five years he's never done this, so understandably I was a bit worried. I got up and gingerly felt my way down the stairs in the dark. Sure enough there was a big glob of his regurgitated dinner on the floor. Sammy seemed fine, even a little annoyed that I was checking up on him!
So I cleaned up the mess and went back to bed only to be woken about an hour later by more hacking - but much louder this time. Again I went downstairs and checked on Sammy who looked at me accusingly, as if the big gooey mess on the tiles was my fault...
I didn't get back to sleep after that, and it didn't help that I had an early morning appointment at the trade chamber. Needless to say I was pretty bleary-eyed at the meeting. Oh well.
I've been checking up on Sammy since this morning. His nose is cold to the touch and his eyes are clear, but he hasn't touched his food. Now that's highly unusual for Sammy! I hope it's just a temporary thing. If not, then it's time to see the vet I'm afraid. He's drinking water -- that's a good sign, isn't it?

Aw, poor Sammy! (he is SO adorable in that picture) I'm not a vet, but we went through something similar with our old cat Lily, and Ollie. They did that, and the vet told us that sometimes cats just stop liking their food, and that's their way of telling us. We switched foods, and they were fine. Hopefully, for Sammy's sake, it's something as simple as that. :) I hope you find out soon!
ReplyDeletePoor Sammy, I hope it turns out to be a stomach bug and he feels better fast. Drinking water is a good sign that he's staying hydrated and working whatever it is out of his system. I agree with Athena that trying out a different food is a wise move. My friend's cat had similar reaction to food as Sammy and was fit as a fiddle after switching from wet to dry food.
ReplyDeleteOopssssss....
ReplyDeleteOur sweety Sammy ???
I don't know Duni
I think you can better ask the vet
Maybe its nothing to worry about but the vet knows more (I think)
Take care.....
Hugs Love from us !!
We will purrr and think on him
send you positive power ;)

Oh noes! We hope Sammy is okay! Sometimes kitties get a hairball or just have an upset tummy but since this is so unusual to Sammy, if he doesn't start eating again very soon, he should certainly take a trip to the vet. It is good that he's drinking water though. Upset tummies don't happen around here very often either so we get worried too. We're sending purrs to Sammy to get well soon!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Angel gets an upset stomach sometimes, and it's usually nothing. She also goes through phases where she's really hungry and then not so much. Drinking water is definitely a good sign. If he keeps drinking water and starts eating again, I wouldn't worry too much. Otherwise I would try what others have suggested and switch dry foods. We're lucky that Angel is NOT picky about her dry food, but I know that many cats are. Best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteYour kitty is so cute! I hope he will be alright......my 2 cats seem to spit up all the time. Sometimes it's just a big ole hairball!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Yikes! I hope Sammy is ok. Have you taken him to see the vet?
ReplyDeleteaw, poor Sammy. Maybe a hairball? Hope the tummy is feeling better now!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a hairball issue. I hope he is OK - and I bet he is :) What a doll baby!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's only hairballs 'cuz that's easy to help him with!
ReplyDeleteI hope Sammy feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that he's drinking water is good, but don't let him go too long without eating. If he's still off his food Friday or is behaving unusually, definitely take him to the vet. Cats do vomit and usually it's nothing, but it's better to be safe.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Sammy is feeling better - he looks like an adorable cat!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your UPDATE

I hope Sammy is feeling better. It is always so hard when your kids and your pets are not well.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Yes, it is a good sign that he is drinking water. Hope he'll be alright.

Is your cat feeling better? I hope it is just a fleeting illness...
ReplyDeleteKitties vomit. That's just what they do. Sometimes if they eat too fast, eat some grass (or a plant), or have a hairball they will vomit.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he is drinking and isn't lethargic, I wouldn't worry about him. If you suspect he isn't himself, take him to the vet--better safe than sorry.
Hobbes was sick a week ago, and the vet is more concerned when they don't drink willingly than eating food. They can dehydrate quickly.
I hope Sammy is okay. I'm sure that he is. Give us an update--we are concerned! Hobbes was very sick last week, so I know the feeling!!! Sending hugs.
I got your comment on my blog a while back about Sammy. Even though I didn't come comment earlier, I've been thinking about and praying for him to be OK!!!
